Pulps for tissue

Tissue papers should be soft, absorbent, and sufficiently strong. These qualities are achieved when the right type of pulp is selected, and the manufacturing and converting processes of paper are carefully controlled. In further processing, it is important that the product does not fluff, and has good runnability and convertability. For paper machine runnability and creping, important pulp characteristics are:

  • even quality
  • chemical and physical cleanness

Other important requirements are:

  • rapid formation of tensile strength
  • good tensile strength of unrefined pulp

Rapid refining improves drainability. Furthermore, less fine matter is produced, which reduces fluffing during the latter phases of refining. Rapid refining also diminishes the dissolving of organic compounds into the paper mill’s water cycles, which in its part improves the paper machine’s functions.
