Pulp manufacture is based on comprehensive utilisation of forest resources. Pulps are divided into long-fibre softwood pulp and short-fibre hardwood pulp. Trees removed in connection with thinnings, residue tops of saw logs, and chipped schal boards and saw dust from saw mills are all utilised as raw material for pulp. Utilisation of the saw mill chips and saw dust that result from sawing improves the competitive position of the mechanical forest industry.
Botnia’s mills use mainly Finnish wood raw material procured by Metsäliitto Cooperative. Metsäliitto’s ISO-certified quality and environmental management system includes a chain of custody system for wood. This system allows the origins of every wood consignment arriving at the mills to be traced back to a particular stand in the forest. This is how we make sure that the wood we use comes from ecologically soundly managed commercial forests.
Supplies of imported wood are handled by Metsäliitto Cooperative. The wood is imported mainly from Russia and the Baltic states.
Every Botnia mill has a certified chain of custody management system for wood.
All our mills have also been given the right to use the PEFC label.
