Äänekoski

The Äänekoski mill went on stream in 1985. The present day production capacity of the mill is1,5 times that of the originally planned capacity. The mill is clean and in excellent shape. Its basic processes still represent best available techniques.

Production capacity 500 000 tonnes of ECF bleached softwood and hardwood pulp on one line.
Grade specialisation The Äänekoski mill specializes in the production of bleached softwood and birch pulp for the manufacture of printing papers and boxboards.
Wood consumption 2.3 million cubic meters a year.
Personnel 160
Customers A lion´s share of the production is used by the owner companies´paper and board mills.

History

  • 1985  The mill goes on stream
  • 1990  The mill is transferred to Metsä-Serla’s ownership as Metsä-Sellu Oy
  • 1993  Oxygen delignification introduced
  • 1997  The mill is transferred back to Botnia’s ownership
  • 2004  Basic repairs to recovery boiler
  • 2005  Twenty years since the start-up of Äänekoski Mill
  • 2007-2008  Modernization of automation system and chlorine dioxide plant
  • 2009  10th million tonnes of pulp
